Attention Deficit/ Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)
Lack of attention and hyperactivity problems can create incredible frustration and problems functioning at home, school and work. If these problems last for more than a few months in a row it may be a mental function problem known as ADD or ADHD. The causes of behavioral problems are often rooted in nutrition, food allergies, toxicity and genetics. By addressing these issues many of the more difficult behaviors can be effectively managed or eliminated altogether. Even in the best environments and with the most expert treatment medications are often necessary to gain control of certain behaviors. Regardless of which treatment brings the desired results, the vast majority of people who have impulsivity, inattention and hyperactivity can go on to lead healthy happy lives.
Almost everyone will have some of the behaviors that look like ADD/ADHD whether they have a problem or not. On top of that, there are many serious disorders that look a lot like ADD/ADHD and can be confusing to someone who has limited exposure to mental health problems. Since a teacher or other concerned person may not see every aspect of behavior it’s important that the diagnosis be well-considered. The history and surroundings that are involved can be a big part of making the decision to diagnose and treat these problems. Some behaviors are so typical of ADD/ADHD that they demand professional evaluation.
